I have heard a lot about this book, The Go-Giver A Little Story About A Powerful Business Idea by Bob Burg and John David Mann, from a few pod-casts and friends.  This book is from the same authors that wrote It’s Not About You.  This book is very similar in style.  It is a story about some fictitious business people and how they learn some important life lesson.  The main character is Joe a sales representative who wants to land a big account.  He meets a consultant named Pindar that shares with Joe his Five Laws of Stratospheric Success.  Let’s review those here first.

The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success

The Law of Value

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

The Law of Compensation

Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

The Law of Influence

Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

The Law of Authenticity

The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

The Law of Receptivity

The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

Each one of these Laws are revealed to Joe from one of Pindar’s associates throughout the course of the week.  They meet each day for lunch with many special guests.  Joe is running into a lot of trouble as a sales representative trying to land one account he calls the Big Kahuna or BK.  He has only a week left to reach his quota and landing the Big Kahuna will get him there.  Of course it isn’t that easy for Joe and we see how Pindar’s advice helps him along the way.

The book is a very easy read for even the slowest readers like me.  It moves quickly through the various scenes that relate to the teachings of Pindar and his connections.  I enjoyed reading it and I learned a lot.
