Plan 2014 with the Fundamental Five

“Failing to plan is planing to Fail”

Alan Lakein

As we near the end of 2013 and begin to plan for 2014 we need to set our goals for the coming year.  I have recently read Rory Vaden’s book Take the Stairs.  In it he outlines the when we schedule our time and plan our future we use the Fundamental Five to guide us.

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Fitness
  4. Faculty(Career)
  5. Finances

Looking at these five areas help us look at our lives and see if we are in balance.  We could focus on our Finances and make great sums of money but our Fitness and Family may suffer.  Rory talks about how we can get out balance for short periods of time, but if we do it for long periods our lives will suffer.

He discusses the idea of “Harvest Periods” in our lives.  He talks about how our lives sometimes work like the farmers life.  When the farmer harvest their crops they must work long hours.  As the son of a grain farmer I understand the principle.  In the spring my father would be gone for many days as the crop was planted and in the fall it was similar as he would harvest his corn and beans.

Start planning a great 2014 today!  Please consider sharing this with someone else.
